Poetics of Habitation in Somers Town
This brief uses Somers Town in London as the site to develop prototype dwellings for transient individuals and communities. After the pandemic alongside the conversation of efficient housing design, it has put into retrospect the ease and ability to move from one place to another whether its for leisure, war, or education. Somers Town is an area with many different existing housing estates and styles such as Georgian terraces, Viennese housing etc... making it the perfect site to test prototypes.
My prototype design is an urban block on a raised podium that allows commercial, institutional and residential spaces to co-exist, with a focus on the vertical gradation of accessibility. The design brings together the residents, students and young graduates, with the local community through a communal library, which is an outreach to the British Library where the site is in close proximity.
